About Us
Overview

If you've never been a member of a credit union, then you may not know what you're missing. To put it simply, a credit union is a non-profit bank. There are no shareholders and no profit-making bank fees. Every person who deposits money at a credit union has a share of ownership in the credit union. For that reason, the credit union gives all of its profits back to its members in the form of better interest rates and low-fee or no-fee services.

Credit unions are not only service-driven institutions, they are democratically controlled by their member-owners. The volunteer board of directors that guides each credit union consists of members just like you, devoted to serving its field of membership and making decisions in your best interests. Credit unions also belong to a worldwide network that supports growth and development. Plus, with your money insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), you have the same protection that you would have at a bank without all of the fees and hassles.

Notre Dame Federal Credit Union was born on a sunny afternoon in May 1941, during the course of a conversation at a small tavern off of Notre Dame Avenue. From our humble beginnings operating out of the night watchman's office in the Main Building on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, we have grown into the thirteenth largest credit union in Indiana.

With ten full-service branches, one walk-up facility, over thirty ATMs in St. Joseph County, and over 32,000 surcharge-free ATMs and 4,000 shared branch networks for our members to use nationwide, we not only continue to grow in the number of members, but also in the number of products and services we offer. Like all credit unions, we return earnings to our members by providing better rates on loans and deposits, by offering free time-saving services, and by maintaining a staff devoted to putting you, our members, first. In this way, we create member delight, and as a result, we have been able to increase our membership to well over 62,000 people from across the United States and abroad.

For over 70 years, we have been owned and controlled by the members we serve. Meeting their financial needs has always been and will always be our primary goal.
