Apply for a STAR Loan - Notre Dame Federal Credit Union

Before you start your application, you will need the following information:

1. ID and contact information: Your Social Security number, driver’s license number, address, and phone number

2. Email address: We use email to notify you when your application has been processed and if we need any additional information from you.

3. Employment information: If you’re employed, your annual salary and employer’s name, address and phone number

4. Contact information for nearest adult relative: Name, address, and phone number for your nearest adult relative who does not live at the same address as you or your cosigner

5. Cosigner’s information: You will need your cosigner’s personal information, including everything listed in 1-4. You won’t be able to submit your application for consideration and review until all of your information and your cosigner’s is complete.

6. Membership: Membership is required for all student loan borrowers. You will be asked to complete our membership process after you apply for your student loan. If you don’t know how you qualify for membership, please contact us before you start your application.*

7. Consolidation Loans: If you are applying for a STAR Consolidation Loan, you will need a copy of your most recent statement for EACH loan that you wish to consolidate. You will need the information on these statements to complete the application, and you will also need to send copies to us after you apply.

NOTE: You will need to create a new user name and password on the next page after you click on “Apply Now” if you have not applied for a STAR Loan since June 2011. Since this information is needed for your STAR Loan only, your Online Banking user name and password will not work.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the process take?
The whole process normally takes about 4-6 weeks. You can find out more about all the steps involved with the Process Timeline. You can expedite the process by completing your parts of the application as quickly as possible.

Do I need a cosigner?
A cosigner may be necessary if you have less than 2 years of credit history or your annual income is less than $15,000. Your interest rate may be lower if you apply with a cosigner.

Can I apply if I don’t have a Social Security number?
Both the student and cosigner must have a Social Security number to apply.

Is membership required for the cosigner?
No. The student must become a member, but the cosigner is not required to join.

Who is Cology?
Cology is a business partner that processes our STAR Loan program for us.

I am cosigning a STAR loan. How can I e-sign the application, see what documents are needed, or print a copy of the completed application?
You will need to create a new account here. Click on "Register" under "New User" and follow the instructions to register. You will be able to e-sign or print a copy to sign. You can also see the status on the application, and whether you need to submit any additional documentation.

*Students attending the University of Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s College, or Holy Cross College automatically qualify for membership. If you attend a different school and you’re not sure how you qualify, please contact us before you complete your loan application. Membership is required when taking out a loan with us. If you are not currently a member of NDFCU, we will contact you to establish membership. Establishing membership is easy and includes opening a membership savings account. If you do not complete the membership application, we will create your membership savings account for you.
